Festivals & Live Music

There’s plenty happening in the second half of 2022. I have managed to track down these tango festivals, it includes favourites and a couple of exciting new events. I have also found a couple of musical events featuring some of Australia’s outstanding tango musicians.

Check them out – but if you fancy going to any of them, move quickly as some are already sold out – or no longer taking bookings for followers.

23-24 Sunshine Coast Neo Tango Festival

A weekend of neo tango workshops and two neolongas (milongas).


30 July – Sydneytango Milonga – Live Music

Presented by Sydneytango to support live music, this milonga occurs on the 5th Saturday of the month. Under new management, Morena Dancewear, 30 July will feature music by the ‘Adelante Tango’ Sextet.


12-14 August – Moonlight Winter Tango, Brisbane – Live Music

This is a first. Three milongas in the Brisbane City Hall, DJs from across the country and a new tango orchestra, The Brisbane Tango Orchestra.


18 August _ Melbourne Tango Orchestra – Live Music

at Open Studio, 204 High Street, Northcote, Melbourne.

26-28 August – Snowy Mountains Tango Festival, Corryong – Live Music

“An Argentine tango boot camp for true beginners to learn to dance. A weekend full of dancing, socializing and exploring the Upper Murray for new and existing dancers from across Australia.”

2-4 September – Byron Bay Tango Festival
This popular Festival returns to one of Australia’s favourite destinations. 
30 Sept – 3 October – Tango in the Spring, Canberra

“Tango in the Spring aims for social tango nirvana. Our milonga program is based around good traditional tango music from experienced DJs in a comfortable and attractive venue. Plus, we have a few extra social activities for your enjoyment.”


25-27 November Buenos Aires in the Southern Highlands. BASH- Live Music

An annual event organised alternately by the Tango Synergy Club of Sydney and the Tango Social Club of Canberra, this is a weekend of dance, music and socialising in the southern highlands town of Bundanoon. Live music by the Mendoza Tango Quartet.
