You've created a website for your tango school - what now?

angelinablogheader.jpgIt's so easy to create a website these days, schoolkids have been doing if for years, but it has got easier and easier. This website is created using Joomla Content Management System which is enormous fun, but a huge learning curve. However if you just want a website to promote your school, classes, milonga - or special event - you can now do it at the drop of a hat with Blogger , Blogspot or similar -and you can create a Facebook page. Tango Australia has both. But once you've done it how do you get people to look at it??

Here are 12 tips - there are many more.
Do an internet search to find new ways when you've taken care of these:

1. Tell everyone about it. Email them, talk to them about it, create a business card in your wordprocessing program and print it so you can give it to people when you see them.

2. Link, link, link. If you write in more than one place then link from one to the other (providing you not stepping on any toes). Send your website URL to other websites that link and link back.

3. List your tango school wherever you can on the internet, starting with the Tango School Directory - and include your URL.

4. Visit the blogs of other people who write about tango and leave a useful comment. Include your blog link on the website section of the comment form.

5. Create a Facebook profile and add a link to your website/blog.

6. Add a link on your email signature

7. Write a press release. If you need some help try this site (www.carolfallows.com.au) for hints. Then send it out to your local paper, tango information sites such as Tango Australia, magazines such as Viva, groups such as the Yahoo group - and anywhere else you think might print news about new websites.

8. Do a giveaway or a competition. Promote your giveaway on other tango sites or blogs.

9. Understand how Google works. Google is the most commonly used search engine and it is the one where you want your blog/website up to top of the first page in a search. Do a search to find out about keywords, linking and page rank. So much to learn - this writer feels she has only scratched the tip. Subscribe to Google Analytics - it will give you the information you need on the visits your site is getting.

10. Create an e-newsletter. You can do it as a pdf, simply send an email on a regular basis  or use a newsletter program. Add a subscription link if possible - this way you will increase your database.

11. Submit your blog to blog directories. Start here. (http://wemagazineforwomen.com/100-blog-directories-to-submit-your-blog).\ or here www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/

12. Make your blog REALLY interesting - or controversial - so people will talk about it!

Even when you have done all of these things your website will take time to appear in searches. It is a long term thing, so be patient.
