Milena Plebs, world-renowned tango choreographer and dancer will visited Australia
in January 2009 together with Demian Garcia
Milena Plebs has been described as the "most significant female Argentine tango dancer of our time". She has been at the forefront of tango choreography and teaching and is a hugely popular star at workshops, festivals and performances around the world.
She writes a regular column for El Tanguata, the online tango magazine that is a fantastic resource for visitors to Buenos Aires.Milena's articles are translated into English. About teaching tango she writes in her article headed 'Quality Control' "I don't agree with a unified code of teaching...If we all did the salida, the ochos, etc. in the same way... the dance would turn monotous and boring." In her article on technique she wonders why technique classes are so much more important to women than men. She writes: "But the male role in the dance of tango is the most complex one. ...Perhaps it would also be advisable for them to have individual training to expand their physical capacities in the responsibility of leading."
