There is nothing more beautiful than basic steps. In Argentina you won't see people doing a lot of steps. In a dance, three steps is too much.
One of the greatest tango teachers was Carlos Gavito, who before he passed away in 2005, at the young age of 63 passed on so much of his love and understanding of tango to many.
Gavito was an Argentinian who danced for many years in Europe and in the USA, returning to Buenos Aires in his later years to become a much sought-after tango teacher and porteno.
On the tangolirico website, Rocco Cornacchia describes how Gavito was very much against people dancing show steps on the milonga floor. Cornacchia quotes him as saying "When I dance I dance for enjoyment, not for exhibition. If you dance for others it becomes stage…am I supposed to clap?"
Gavito talks about what tango means to him… in a film by Planet Tango (http://www.youtube.com/user/PlanetTango) of Gavito and Marcela Duran's Californian tour in 1996.
This video shows Gavito dancing with Maria Plazaola in 2002 in his show La Trastienda
And teaching at the Dandi Royal with Maria Plazaola in Buenos Aires, 2006.
and towards the end of his life dancing with Geraldine Rojas
